- 1st string — E down a whole step to D
- 2nd string — leave it at B
- 3rd string — leave it at G
- 4th string — leave it at D
- 5th string — A down a whole step to G
- 6th string — E down a whole step to D
Why players use it
The strings are tuned to the notes of a G chord, so barring a single fret gives you a full major chord anywhere on the neck. That is exactly what a slide needs. Keith Richards famously pulled the low string off entirely and played the remaining five.
