Standard tuning with a low B added below it — five extra semitones of range.

Getting there from standard
The six standard strings stay exactly as they are; the extra string is tuned below them.
- 1st string — leave it at E
- 2nd string — leave it at B
- 3rd string — leave it at G
- 4th string — leave it at D
- 5th string — leave it at A
- 6th string — leave it at E
- 7th string — added, tuned to B
Why players use it
The top six strings are exactly standard, so nothing you know is wasted. The added low B extends the range downward without the trade-offs of detuning: string tension stays healthy and the top end stays bright.
What it buys you
Every standard-tuning shape still works, with a fifth below the low E when you want it.
